What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a modern and effective solution for replacing missing teeth. Designed to mimic the look, feel, and function of natural teeth, they are a long-lasting option for restoring your smile and maintaining oral health. They serve as replacement tooth roots, providing a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable prosthetics designed to match your natural teeth.
Why replace missing teeth?
When a tooth is lost, the surrounding teeth can shift into the empty space, altering your bite and making it more difficult to chew properly. Opposing teeth may also begin to extrude out of their sockets, potentially leading to further tooth loss. These changes can create hard-to-clean areas where plaque and tartar accumulate, increasing the risk of tooth decay and periodontal disease.

The implant post
A small, medical grade screw surgically placed into the jawbone. It acts as an artificial tooth root and fuses with the bone over time — osseointegration.

The abutment
A connector placed on top of the implant post, serving as a base for the final restoration.

The crown
A custom-made artificial tooth secured to the abutment, matched to the size, shape and colour of your natural teeth.
Implant-supported dentures
For individuals with loose or uncomfortable dentures, implants can offer a more stable solution. Multiple implants connected with a bar let a new upper or lower denture attach securely with snap-on attachments. This prevents the denture from rocking while still allowing easy removal for cleaning, helps distribute biting forces more evenly, and reduces pressure on the underlying bone and nerves.
